Salt City Mediation charges $200 per hour plus a one-time $35 admin fee, with a two-hour minimum. A typical first session is $435, usually shared between the two people. The consult before it is free.
$200 / hour
A worked example
Two business partners book a two-hour session. The session costs $400, plus the $35 admin fee, so the total is $435. They agree beforehand to split it, so each pays $217.50. They reach an agreement in that session, it is written up and signed on the call, and that is the whole bill.
If a matter needs a second session, the admin fee is not charged again. A second two-hour block is $400.
What the fee includes
- A short private conversation with each of you before the session, so nobody walks in cold.
- The two-hour video session itself, including private breakout conversations when they help.
- A written agreement drafted during the session and signed on the call.
- Scheduling, the video link, and the secure handling of your documents and transcript.
What it does not include
Legal advice. A mediator is neutral and does not represent either person. If you want an attorney to review the agreement before you sign, that is a separate cost you arrange yourself, and often a sensible one when money or children are involved. Court filing fees, if your matter is already in court, are also separate.
How people usually split it
Most people share the cost equally, because the session serves both of them. One person books and pays, and the two of you settle up privately. Some people agree on a different split. That is your call, and it can be one of the things you decide in the session.
Why the price is posted
Because you deserve to know it before you commit. There is no retainer, no meter running between sessions, and no invoice you did not expect. If anything about the price changes, this page changes the same day.
How this compares
Other mediators price differently, and ours is one data point. Court is the expensive path. As a reference, a contested divorce handled through litigation commonly runs $15,000 to $30,000 per spouse in Utah, while divorce mediation usually totals $1,500 to $8,000 for the whole matter. Those are estimates and not legal advice. The full comparison guide walks through where the money goes.
Common questions
Is the first consult really free?
Yes. The 15-minute consult costs nothing and carries no obligation. It is a short call to hear what is happening and say honestly whether mediation fits. If it does not, we will tell you.
What if we finish early?
The two-hour minimum applies to the first booking, because almost every matter needs the full time to be heard properly and to write the agreement. If a second session is needed, it is billed at $200 per hour with no second admin fee.
Who pays?
One person books and pays online, and the two of you split the cost however you agree. Most people share it equally. If that itself is a sticking point, it can be the first thing we work out.
Do you take payment plans or sliding scale?
Not at this time. The rate is flat and posted so you can plan around it. If cost is the thing standing in the way, say so in the consult and we will talk about what is possible for your situation.
