Meet your mediator
David Ring III
Salt City Mediation LLC is led by its founder and mediator, David Ring III. He builds software, is the founder of EmpathEase, an app for practicing empathy and Nonviolent Communication, and wrote Unclog Your Happiness: A Practical Guide to Living Blissfully (2015). He completed Utah Dispute Resolution's 40-hour mediation training in 2026.
The approach here is the same one behind EmpathEase: help each person feel understood first, then find the agreement. As your mediator, David stays neutral. He doesn't take sides, and he doesn't give legal advice. His only job is to help you both reach something you can live with.

What is mediation?
Mediation is a private conversation, guided by a neutral person, where two people work out their own agreement. The mediator does not decide anything or take sides. You both keep control of the outcome, and either of you can stop at any time.
How much does mediation cost at Salt City Mediation?
$200 per hour plus a one-time $35 admin fee, with a two-hour minimum, so a first session is typically $435. Most people split it. The 15-minute consult beforehand is free, and there is no obligation to book a session afterward.
How long does mediation take?
Sessions are booked in two-hour blocks, by video. Many matters finish in a single session with a written agreement. More involved disputes sometimes take a second session. You set the pace, not a court calendar.
Is a mediated agreement binding?
Generally, a written agreement that both people sign is a contract between them, and for a case already in court it can usually be submitted to the court. We write it up and sign it on the call. For legal questions about enforcement, talk to an attorney.
Is mediation confidential?
Yes. Sessions are private and not recorded. A live transcript is used only to draft your agreement and is deleted once it is signed. Utah recognizes mediation as confidential, with narrow legal exceptions such as threats of harm or abuse of a child or vulnerable adult.
Do I need a lawyer for mediation?
No. Private mediation does not require one. The mediator stays neutral and gives no legal advice, so if money, children, or an unclear legal question is involved, it is wise to have an attorney review the agreement before you sign. Lawyers may attend if both people agree.
